The Monster Energy Slopestyle from Kokanee Crankworx won the Boneyard Slopestyle race in Whistler Mountain Bicycle Park. This event attracts the largest crowd every year, with the top mountain bikers competing for the prize money.

This years Monster Energy Slopestyle saw tens of thousands around the world thanks to the live webcast on crankworx.com, and go211.com.

Andreu Lacondeguy, a Kona team rider from Spain, took the top spot and reached the finals with a score 94.3. Lance Mcdermott from Great Britain took second place with a score 91.5. Brandon Semenuk from Whistler took third place with a score of 91.5. For their incredible efforts, all eight riders placed in the top 8 took home cash.

Lacondeguys impressive trick list was the highlight of his winning run. Starting with a double backflip off the first table, followed closely by a footplant off the Monster Snake and a back flip flip X-up. Next, he did a flat spin 360, topside-nac, can’t step-down and superman. Finally, he finished with a back turn onto the last Kokanee feature.

Lancondeguy says that I kept trying the double-back flip. It was the trick that worked, and it was quite gnarly.

John Cowan designed this years Slopestyle course and it was a great course. The course featured huge tables, dirt jumps and wooden spins. As the final feature, the Girobox was used to show the judges the last feature.

Slopestyle contests focus on the overall impression and Colin Duncan, Head Judge, said that the finals featured smooth runs by the men. It was a difficult contest to judge, with tricks such as the double back flip, back turn tail whip, and the back flip up onto a Kokanee box, and a front flip off. Lacondeguys style run and the crazy double back flip won the contest.

The highlight of Kokanee’s 8th day was the Monster Energy Slopestyle at Kokanee. Day 9 is the last day of the festival and includes the Canadian Open DH Pro, Amateur, and Pro categories. DJ Science will conclude the Telus concert series.
